Media Release
During the year, I would like to share with you - the parents - labs my students are doing and share them on our class website. I may also like to consider using them for future Power Points, or relay them to the district or school newsletter. These are pictures that I take and submit to the school yearbook. The pictures/videos on the website are not downloadable, but you are free to email me for an electronic copy of your child's photo at no additional costs.
Other non-picture related posting's include a students name for an award recognition the classroom, school and/or district website.
Please take time to review the Information Release Form and select all appropriate options. If your preference changes during the year, please contact me – and I will have you submit a new form. If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact the me before signing.
Please check the box(es) below to indicate what permissions you are comfortable giving:

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class is an introductory course with a wealth of information concerning the fundamental knowledge of how matter interrelates to energy & change through four different fields of study: Physics, Chemistry, Geology & Ecology.
The following areas of Science will be covered in detail:
Classroom Rules:
1. Be respectful of your self and others (Golden Rule).
2. Be respectful of the teacher.
3. Be respectful of the classroom/school.
a. Please treat lab and school equipment with care & respect. Students who are responsible for damaging equipment will be charged the cost to replace the item.
*Violation of each will be dealt with in an appropriate manner (Please see Behavior Policy below). Remember: You are free to make choices, but you are not free from the consequences of the choices that you make.
BEHAVIOR POLICY:
Each student is expected to behave in an appropriate manner fit for a public classroom, and will be held accountable for their actions and behavior while in class. If a student violates the classroom rules, appropriate action will follow:
1. First offense: Verbal warning or reminder cue
2. Second offense: Relocation within the classroom
3. Third offense: Placed in time out or excused from the classroom and placed in another teacher’s classroom
4. Fourth offense: Sent to office (may happen earlier if offense is strong enough)
*Negative behaviors will be tracked and reported to parents every day using classdojo.com
*Positive behaviors will also be tracked and rewarded using classdojo.com (I want to recognize and reward students who are doing good things)
GRADING:
1. WALKAWAYS: WA raw scores are worth 40% of your grade. You will be required to achieve mastery of each Walkaway before you can receive a passing grade. Mastery is considered an 80% or better score. If your score is below passing, you will receive an “I” grade until the test is passed. If a WA is passed after a term has completed, the final grade will be C-.
2. CLASS and LAB ASSIGNMENTS: Class and Lab Assignments are worth 60% of your grade. We will be working on these daily and should be completed in class. Please have your internet forms filled out with the media center. For late work, please view the Late Work Policy below. It is possible to get a reminder text for due dates and test dates through “remind101”. Please contact Mr. Burrell for information about this.
3. CRT (end of year) Test: The end of year test (CRT) will also affect your 4th term grade. The exact point value will be discussed and notification will be sent out prior to the test.
GRADING SCALE: Scores are then totaled and a grade is given according to the following schedule of percentages.
LATE WORK POLICY: Each student will be expected to finish all assignments on time. Packets are due the day of the Walk Away. All other assignments are due on the indicate/given date. If late, you will still be expected to complete the assignment, but at a reduced value (10% deduction of value/week late). If you have a specific issue, you need to see me (email is also a good choice) BEFORE it is a problem.
EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS: Extra Credit Assignments may be offered as an assignment or project. I will announce when it is available.
CHEATING: Cheating is not tolerated in any form. Each student is expected to complete their own assignments and tests. First suspected offense, a warning can be given. A 2nd, or clear first violation, may result in NO CREDIT for assignments or tests where cheating has taken place, and your citizenship grade will be automatically be dropped to Unsatisfactory. And a parent-student-teacher meeting may be scheduled.
ATTENDANCE AND TARDIES: Attendance and Tardies will be addressed as stated in the school policy, which is found in the student handbook (pg. 14) it is your responsibility to makeup work for absences. You have ONE WEEK after your return from your absence to complete it for FULL CREDIT. Most work missed will already be included in your unit packet. To access any missing coursework assignments please go to my website (listed above), check the calendar and print off the needed assignments from the current unit page. You are also expected to review the Power Point lectures (also found on the website) on your own at home and be prepared to join the class when you return.
